Raven Trivia

INTRODUCTION
The following are various tidbits about Raven from throughout the series.

BROOCH DESIGN

Sometimes the brooch that fastens her cloak is shown with a depiction of a raven on it. Also, sometimes it shines a blinking, red light when the emergency alarm goes off.

MUYBRIDGE'S BIRD

The bird seen flying during the show's opening theme comes from a series of animal locomotion photos taken by Eadweard Muybridge in the late 1800s. For the Teen Titans show, the photos were colorized and displayed at a rate that creates the illusion of motion.

SINGING

Raven can be heard singing (or, more accurately, talking on tempo and drawing out certain words) a bit during the credits of "Teen Titans Trouble in Tokyo" to the tune of the Teen Titans theme song. The subtitles don't show up during the credits, but it sounds like the lyrics she sang were:
"Papa's schedule control,
Mama's weight control,
Wishes are endless,
Teen Titans go."
Then, at the end of each Teen Titans' singing, the five say "Teen Titans" together.

FIRST AND LAST WORDS

The first thing Raven says in the series is "Four.", which is a part of the team all counting off in the first episode. The last thing she says in the series is "Not so fast.", as well as some "[GRUNTING]" during a long fight with a monster in the final episode. In the Teen Titans Trouble in Toyko movie, her last words during the actual movie portion are a response to Starfire's question "Did you also make the new friends while exploring Tokyo?", to which she replies "No, but I somehow wound up as a mascot for gum." After the movie she has further lines during the credits as stated in the trivia above.

JANUS

According to a card from the Teen Titans Collectible Card Game, the double faced, four armed statue within Raven's mind shown in the episode "Nevermore" is a warrior named “Janus”. This draws parallels to the ancient Roman religious and mythical figure of the same name who also had two faces. In these beliefs, Janus was the god of transitions, passages, and other things that lead to change.

MUSIC

In the episode "The Lost Episode", after Starfire states her opinion that "Music is a glorious expression that is supposed to make one feel happy.", Raven replies, "You obviously haven't heard any of my music.", a passing comment which hints towards her musical taste and/or choice.

Her and sometimes Robin are the only of the five teammates in the scene shown wearing headphones -- and considering that they lack the attached microphones as seen in, for example, "Calling All Titans", it doesn't seem too likely that they're for communication, so perhaps this is her listening to music. SOCKS

When Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, and Robin are spat out of a whale-form Beast Boy in the episode "Wavelength", one of Raven's boots comes off in Beast Boy's mouth, revealing a sock-less Raven, suggesting that she doesn't wear socks, unless, of course, it came off her foot as well and remained in the boot. A moment later we see her finishing putting her boot back on, but we never see her actually put her foot into the boot, just the direct aftermath. The case may also be that she's been wearing some sort of leggings all along.

HAIR AND SKIN COLOR

Raven's unusual grey skin is possibly a result of her demon heritage, but it's unlikely that this same reason is the cause of her distinct purple hair due to the fact that her non-grey skinned mother Arella also had purple hair.

HAIR LENGTH

When Raven and Starfire switch bodies in the episode "Switched", Raven asks Starfire rhetorically, "How can you stand having this much hair?" which may suggest that she keeps her hair semi-short for more than just her appearance, but for convenience/comfort.

MENTIONED IN AN ANIME

In the year 2000, Pierrot and Aniplex created an anime called Ghost Stories (学校の怪談) based off of a book series by Tōru Tsunemitsu. After it proved to be a commercial failure in Japan, its North American English dubbers, ADV Films, were given permission to do as they pleased with it. The result a few years later was a series filled with dark comedy, politically incorrect humor, and off-the-wall ad-libs. In one of its many newly created lines, a character named Keiichirou is discussing a memory with a ghost trapped in a cat’s body named Amanojaku of when he was taken to visit his dying mother in the hospital as a two-year-old, saying, “Who wants to see your mom go through that? Why’d they take me to the hospital anyway? I was two! Let me stay home and watch Cartoon Network.” Amanojaku replies approvingly, “I hear ya.” Keiichirou continues, “Spongebob Squarepants, Fairly Oddparents, Teen Titans — Raven’s hot!”, to which Amanojaku interjects, “I said I heard ya!” “I’m just saying, dude, she’s hot.” Even if it is only an English dub, it's interesting to see things go full circle, with the heavily anime-inspired Teen Titans making a mark on a legitimate anime.
